I shouldn’t doubt director Stephen Frears (High Fidelity, The Queen, Philomena), but this looks bad. Perhaps it’s the poor trailer quality, but it looks cheaply made and badly acted. This should be an Oscar-worthy film, with such a compelling story and such a good director, but only a very few people have even heard of it, and they don’t seem to like it very much. I think Ben Foster is a great actor, but he looks overmatched here, like he’s waded in where he’s not quite tall enough to stand. It’s a movie exposing Lance Armstrong; I should be feeling much more fascinated than I am.
