Release: June 3rd, 2016
This movie makes me angry and I’ll tell you why. It’s not because it plays with our emotions in an unfair way; all romance movies do that. And it’s not even because the guy’s in a wheelchair; we’ve seen that done countless times before. I’m angry because this film is an obvious ploy to evoke emotion and pity, crossing a goddam Nicholas Sparks vomit romance with The Theory of Everything AND THEN pretending like its doing no such thing. What a hack. They’ve taken the worst cinema has to give us, wrapped it in shit, and are trying to sell it to us as something new, shiny, and pleasant. I see through you, you assholes, and hopefully everyone else will too.
