I love that Laurent is continuing to direct, and this would be her biggest picture to date, so good for her. She’s talented, but I do worry that this film feels like too many others, which is something that new directors cling to, recycling what they know has worked before. That sometimes leads to great things, there’s no reason it can’t here, I’m simply a little hesitant. But Foster is a genius, and Fanning is improving with age, so perhaps we should give this movie a chance, even if the trailer doesn’t make it look spectacular.
