This isn’t Kidman’s usual type of role, which just might be the perfect thing for her. Recently she’s been delivering peak performances (The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Beguiled), but she’s never been one of my favorite actresses, her characters are all too breathy & flustered & melodramatic. But this role looks like it might challenge her in exactly the way that will bring out her best, and I’m ready to watch.
