Chris Evans is the real deal, and I say that based more on his activism and his personality than his acting, which is fine, he was a great Cap, but he’s not going to go down as Daniel Day-Lewis or anything. He’s leveled out as a good actor, not spectacular but solid and likeable, and that’s then backed by his incredible heart and open mind, which you can see in an instant on any platform you wish. This movie will feel honest and empathic because his energy (and I hope the energy of the entire cast) will shine through, and because its subject matter is something we need to keep fresh in our privileged minds. The ultimate quality of the film might not be Oscar-caliber and I don’t really like Haley Bennett, but Huisman & Nivola are sharp, Kingsley & Kinnear are smart choices, and I’m on board with low expectations but strong support.
