I am just not impressed by these cult/demonic/pagan/grotesque/hellish movies, they do nothing for me, and honestly I question the taste level of people who watch them and claim that they’re the best movies ever made.  Hereditary was scary, sure, it definitely got to me, but it stole from too many others to be called brilliant, and it simply wasn’t a great film; I’m shocked that this isn’t universally understood, at least by critics who should know better.  Suspiria comes to mind as well as a movie that isn’t really good, it’s just disturbing, which shouldn’t be enough for someone who has been around the block and has seen what other filmmakers have to offer.  I’d still give Midsommar a chance, I’m not going to pretend that I know exactly how I’ll feel about it without watching it, but I have to predict the same psychotic mayhem we’ve already seen done before and without real originality.
